Bedford Village Flower Shoppe has been designing funeral and sympathy flowers for local families for seven years, from our shop at 634 Old Post Road in Bedford.

Funeral flowers are the one delivery that cannot be late. Services start on time, viewings end on time, and a tribute that arrives after the family has left the chapel has failed no matter how beautiful it is. That is the part we take seriously. We call the funeral home, confirm when the room opens, and work backward from the service.

What to Send to a Funeral or Memorial Service
Standing Sprays, Wreaths and Crosses
Displayed on an easel beside the casket or urn. This is what most people send when they are not immediate family, whether from a workplace, a congregation or a group of friends. We build these to order.
Casket Pieces
The tribute that rests on the casket itself. Traditionally the immediate family chooses it, so if you are not next of kin a standing piece is the better call. Every casket piece is designed to order, so please call us.
Sympathy Arrangements
A vase or basket arrangement sent to the funeral home is easier to move than an easel piece, and the family can take it home afterward. These are also what we send to the house, before or after the service.
Flowers to the Family’s Home
Often the kinder choice, and it does not have to be the day of the service. The week after, when the visitors stop coming and the house goes quiet, is when it lands hardest. An orchid or a plant keeps going for months.
Timing, Etiquette and What to Know
- Get it there before the room opens. We aim to deliver at least two hours ahead of a viewing or service. Give us the service time and we will work backward from it.
- What we need from you. The full name of the person being honored, the funeral home or cemetery, and the date and time of the service. Funeral homes file by the name of the deceased, never by the sender.
- Casket pieces belong to the family. If you are a friend, a neighbor or a coworker, send a standing spray, a wreath or an arrangement instead. Nobody will think less of the gesture.
- Cemetery deliveries need lead time. Graveside deliveries and cemetery restrictions vary. Some sites do not allow glass containers, balloons or shepherd’s hooks. Tell us where the service is and we will design to those rules.
- Signing the card. Use the full name the family will recognize. “The Morrison family, Pound Ridge” reads better than a first name alone. We can add a printed banner on easel pieces.
- Same day is possible, but call. Our online cutoff is 3:00 PM Monday through Friday and noon on Saturday, and we are closed Sundays. Funeral work is different from a standard delivery, so pick up the phone at 914-234-7180 rather than ordering online if the service is today or tomorrow.

How soon before the service should funeral flowers be delivered?
We aim to have everything set at least two hours before a viewing or service begins, which gives the funeral director time to place the pieces properly. Give us the service time when you order and we will work backward from it. If you are ordering the day before, that is plenty of notice.
What information do I need to send funeral flowers?
The full name of the person who died, the name of the funeral home, chapel or cemetery, and the date and time of the service. Funeral homes file everything by the name of the deceased, so that is the detail that matters most. If you have it, the town helps too, since several local funeral homes have more than one location.
Who is supposed to send the casket piece?
Traditionally the immediate family. If you are a friend, a neighbor, a coworker or part of a group, a standing spray, wreath or cross on an easel is the appropriate choice. If you are family and you are not sure what to do, call us at 914-234-7180 and we will talk it through with you.
Can you deliver to a cemetery for a graveside service?
Yes. We deliver to Gate of Heaven, Kensico, Sharon Gardens, Mount Pleasant, Oakwood, St. Mary / Putnam in Greenwich and the smaller village cemeteries around Bedford, Somers, North Salem and South Salem. Cemetery rules vary on containers, height and decorations, so tell us the location when you order and we will design to what that site allows.
Can you deliver funeral flowers the same day?
Often, but please call rather than ordering online. Funeral pieces are designed to order and the timing is tied to the service, so a phone call at 914-234-7180 lets us confirm what is possible before you commit. Our standard online cutoff is 3:00 PM Monday through Friday and noon on Saturday, and we are closed Sundays.
What should I send if I cannot attend the service?
Flowers to the family’s home are the warmer gesture when you cannot be there, and they do not have to arrive on the day of the service. The week afterward, once the visitors have stopped coming, is often when it means the most. A sympathy arrangement, an orchid or a plant all work well for this.
