No garden flower is quite so beloved as the dahlia. These tuberous spreading plants come in nearly all the colors of the rainbow. Dahlias are available in a variety of different shapes, sizes, and growing habits, so you can choose the type of dahlia that’s right for your garden.
Prize dahlias are impressive enough to win growing competitions at the state fair, though most gardeners grow these classic flowers simply because they’re lovely to behold. Dahlias make tremendous cut flowers for bouquets. The more you cut them, the more they’ll bloom.
Lavender is another garden favorite grown in front yards, on farms, and in fields around the country. There’s a big industry for lavender because of its soothing scent and unusual spear-shaped flowers. There are many varieties of lavender, and some of them bloom all summer long.

Yarrow is made up of silvery-green leaves and delicate blossom clumps that can add beauty to any bouquet. Some types of yarrow can be invasive, so it’s important to pay attention to the variety you choose. Only pick flowers that are good for your environment.
Another daisy-like flower, coreopsis can produce yellow, orange, red, or pink blooms throughout the summer. It comes in many varieties and is an incredibly easy-to-grow flower. Coreopsis comes in clumps that will easily spread if given the chance. You don’t have to work hard to enjoy these cheerful flowers.
Hardy ice plants are drought-resistant succulents that produce attractive purple blossoms throughout the summer. If you’re dedicated to growing a garden with low water needs, the hardy ice plant is an excellent option.
Hardy hibiscus produces large, tropical flower blossoms that draw the eye. You’ll “ooh” and “ahh” over the shape and color of these flowers. In many areas, hardy hibiscus dies back to the ground every winter, but then returns when the weather warms up in the spring.
